Fifth homicide victim in seven days shakes Biobío Region

A man lost his life after receiving at least eight bullet impacts in the vicinity of the Padre Hurtado settlement in San Pedro de la Paz, according to canal9.cl. The crime is the fifth homicide recorded in the Biobío Region within a period of just one week.

The victim was in a public place with his partner when at least two individuals approached him and opened fire. Gravely wounded, the man was transferred to the SAR Candelaria in the municipality, where his death was confirmed.

The chief prosecutor of the Criminal Analysis and Investigation Focus System (SACFI) Biobío, Michelangelo Bianchi, clarified that the body presented a minimum of eight ballistic impacts. Initial proceedings established that at least two people would have acted as perpetrators of the crime.

Specialised teams attended the scene to carry out expert examinations and collect evidence with the objective of clarifying the dynamics of the attack and identifying those responsible. Among the units present was the Homicide Brigade of the PDI.

The subprefect Enrique Guzmán, head of that brigade, stated that the investigation already has persons of interest. He added that the victim had police records for theft.

The Public Ministry indicated that the investigation is making progress and that proceedings continue aimed at the arrest of those responsible for the attack.

With this murder, the Biobío Region has accumulated 62 homicide victims so far in 2026, and has its fifth violent death in just seven days.
