Homicide on Chinchorro beach: nineteen-year-old found shot dead in Arica
The PDI and the Regional Public Prosecutor's Office are investigating the homicide of a nineteen-year-old Chilean man whose body was found this Sunday morning in the Chinchorro beach area of Arica, according to biobiochile.cl.
The discovery was made behind the Olympic Village, in the vicinity of the Olympic swimming pool. Around 06:00 hours, an alert call was received regarding the presence of the body at the location.
Detectives from the Homicide Brigade and forensic experts from the PDI's Criminal Laboratory arrived at the scene, along with the Organised Crime and Homicide Team (ECOH) from the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutor Rodrigo González confirmed that the victim is of Chilean nationality and that his death is being investigated as a homicide committed with a firearm.
In the same incident, a second man aged 23, also of Chilean nationality, was injured and was taken to the emergency services of the Regional Hospital Dr. Juan Noé in Arica.
The exact circumstances of the attack remain under investigation. Among the hypotheses being considered is the possibility that the assault occurred elsewhere and that the young man, after being injured, fled to the area where he was ultimately found dead.
Subprefect Julio Ceballo, head of the PDI Arica Homicide Brigade, stated that specialised teams are working at the scene to gather evidence that will help clarify the circumstances of the events. The proceedings include external examination of the body and the gathering of background information to establish how the crime occurred and identify the perpetrator or perpetrators.
