Sergeant 2nd Class Jaime Urrea Burgos, belonging to the Canteras Station of the 1st Police Station of Los Ángeles, died after being shot by an unknown assailant whilst attending to a domestic violence intervention in the municipality of Quilleco, Biobío region, according to 24horas.cl.

Security Minister Martín Arrau expressed his condolences through his X account and described the officer as "a new martyr of Carabineros". "The murder of Sergeant 2nd Class Jaime Urrea Burgos is deeply painful," wrote the Secretary of State.

Arrau described the circumstances of the incident: "Jaime responded to an intervention in Quilleco for domestic violence, and died after being shot whilst fulfilling his duty to protect others". The author of the shot had not been publicly identified at the time of publication.

The minister used the opportunity to demand concrete measures in favour of the police institution. "Chile must stand behind them. Support them with actions, give them the tools to confront increasingly violent crime and restore respect for authority," Arrau stated in the same post.

The head of the Security portfolio extended his condolences to Carabineros de Chile, as well as to the family and friends of Sergeant Urrea, whom he bid farewell with the words "Honour and glory to Sergeant Jaime Urrea".
