Man detained in Iquique for robbery had international search order for homicide

A 38-year-old Peruvian national was remanded in custody after being formally charged with participation in a foiled robbery in the La Puntilla district of Iquique, according to latercera.com.

The incident occurred on Wednesday last week, around 11:30, when the accused and four other individuals boarded a vehicle from the InDrive application. The victim, a Bolivian businesswoman, had withdrawn 2,800,000 pesos and 3,000 dollars from a money exchange house minutes earlier.

The robbery was interrupted by a plainclothes carabinero who intervened at the scene. "To prevent a worse outcome and stop the robbery, he fired eight shots, with the accused fleeing the area," said the state prosecutor's assistant lawyer.

The investigation, directed by the OS9 section of the Carabineros, included a review of security cameras in the sector. The footage made it possible to identify the vehicle used, which was found abandoned on Las Cabras street at Centenario passage, and to identify one of the occupants, who had a wound on the lower left side of his back.

The accused was arrested that same night, around 20:00, upon entering the emergency department of Iquique Hospital.

During the proceedings it was established that the man had an international alert issued from Peru. "An international alert was received from Peru, given that this individual was being sought by that country to serve a pending sentence for the crime of homicide, for which he was sentenced to seven years in prison," said the state prosecutor's representative.

The court set a 60-day investigation period, during which the accused will remain in preventive custody.
