Bogota.gov.co reported that Bogotá authorities made 430 arrests in a single week for various criminal offences, with concrete results against structures dedicated to robbery in commercial establishments and trafficking in narcotics.
'Los Cizallas': six detained for 33 violent robberies in supermarkets
One of the most significant operations was the dismantling of 'Los Cizallas', a group of six people linked to 33 violent robberies in supermarkets in the districts of Engativá, Barrios Unidos, Suba, Kennedy and Puente Aranda.
According to the investigation, members used vehicles with the appearance of transport and medical assistance to gain access to the establishments. Once inside, they posed as customers, led their victims to the warehouses and used tools to breach security systems and steal merchandise and cash. Following the arrests, a judge imposed a custodial remand measure on five of those detained.
'Hera' gang sold drugs under the guise of an auto parts business
In the district of Los Mártires, authorities dismantled the structure known as 'Hera', accused of trafficking in narcotics behind auto parts shops in the La Leona sector, in the La Estanzuela neighbourhood.
The investigation spanned one year and included undercover work to document the drug-selling activities. During the operation, 9,000 doses of narcotics were seized. Ten members of the structure were sent to prison, whilst others received house arrest.
40 million peso watch and mobile phone robbery: further arrests in the capital
In Barrios Unidos, authorities arrested a suspect accused of attempting to rob a high-end watch valued at approximately 40 million pesos. According to the report, two men accosted a driver to steal the jewellery. The police response allowed officers to catch one of the suspects as he attempted to flee; during the procedure a firearm was seized and the victim's belongings were recovered.
In the districts of Bosa and Kennedy, a suspected bike thief was arrested, investigated for mobile phone robberies. The arrest came after a citizen alerted authorities to the theft of her telephone; the information provided facilitated the police response and the capture of the suspect, who was placed at the disposal of the competent authorities.
District Security Office urges reporting via Line 123
The District Office of Security, Coexistence and Justice reiterated its call to citizens to report any criminal act or situation affecting coexistence through the Emergency Line 123.
