Operations against homicide result in 64 arrests in the Colombian capital
Bogotá Metropolitan Police detained 64 adults and apprehended a minor in operations concerning homicide cases conducted since 7 August 2026, publimetro.co reported on Monday, 19 October.
Of the total adults arrested, 60 are men and four are women. Regarding the manner of arrests, 27 were made in flagrante delicto and 37 pursuant to judicial order.
Among those detained are three suspected femicide perpetrators, as well as individuals accused of involvement in homicides through contract killing and street brawls. The authorities attribute these results to prevention, surveillance, criminal intelligence and investigation work carried out in different areas of the city.
One of the most notable operations was the arrest of the man known by the alias 'El Gordo' in the Guacamayas neighbourhood, San Cristóbal locality. The subject was on the wanted list for homicide and is suspected of responsibility for an attack with a bladed weapon that occurred on 15 August 2025 during a brawl, in which the victim subsequently died. After the incident, the arrested man allegedly travelled to Chile, where he remained for approximately eight months before being detained by judicial order.
Police also reported the arrest of the alias 'Enano', suspected of being a hitman and coordinator of drug trafficking in the El Muelle neighbourhood, Engativá locality. The authorities link him to a homicide committed with a firearm in that area in June 2026.
In another operation, a 17-year-old teenager was apprehended by judicial order in the San Vicente neighbourhood in Tunjuelito. He is suspected of involvement in a robbery and homicide perpetrated in Girardot, Cundinamarca, on 22 May 2024.
Additionally, two men were arrested in flagrante delicto for their suspected involvement in a murder that occurred during a brawl in which a machete was used.
President Abelardo de la Espriella referred to the operations through his social media: "Thanks to the prevention, surveillance, criminal intelligence and investigation work of the National Police, through Bogotá Metropolitan Police, since 7 August we have achieved the arrest of 64 suspected homicide perpetrators and the apprehension of one teenager. Among those arrested are hitmen, femicide perpetrators and one of the most wanted for homicide, alias 'El Gordo'. The offensive against crime does not stop! We continue working to protect life and bring those responsible to justice."
Arrests do not constitute convictions; the responsibility of those charged must be determined in their respective judicial proceedings.
