73 suspected killers arrested in Bogotá in police operations
Authorities in the Colombian capital disclosed the results of various operations in which they managed to jail 73 individuals accused of committing homicides. The detentions were carried out through judicial warrants and arrests in flagrante delicto, resulting from intelligence work, criminal investigations and prevention patrols.
Among the apprehended is a Venezuelan national, detained in Santa Fe, whom authorities attribute with the murder of a 59-year-old man that occurred in July of last year in the Usaquén district. The victim, who was travelling on a motorised personal mobility vehicle, was intercepted by several criminals; during the robbery he sustained fatal injuries from a sharp object. Investigators established that the detainee would typically operate after nightfall alongside other accomplices, stalking pedestrians to rob them of their belongings by force. This same individual is credited with the looting of a pharmacy recorded in August 2025, and it was learned that he has half a dozen criminal records for theft.
Another notable case was the arrest of a man accused of killing his romantic partner in January of this year, also in Usaquén. Following the death, the suspect allegedly arranged the scene of the crime to make it appear that the woman had committed suicide; however, forensic examinations and detective work debunked that version.
On another front, a Venezuelan national nicknamed "Papeles" was arrested in Rafael Uribe Uribe, who appears on the list of fugitives most wanted by the Cali Police. He is accused of aggravated homicide and illegal possession of pistols, and is linked to the murder of a foreigner committed in 2025 in order to appropriate cash from the illicit drug business.
In the Las Cruces neighbourhood, within Santa Fe, authorities detained a person who was moving about with the lifeless body of a woman loaded on a cart, suspected of being the perpetrator of the homicide. Meanwhile, in the San Bernardino neighbourhood of Bosa, a foreign woman was arrested, accused of causing the death of a man with a sharp weapon following a dispute over intolerance.
Additionally, four alleged contract killers and other individuals involved in street brawls where they used sharp objects, resulting in the deaths of their opponents, were arrested.
The armed institution highlighted that, during the present year, cases of homicide in the city have declined by 7 per cent, which is equivalent to 33 fewer victims compared with the previous period. During this time, over 645 pistols and revolvers have been seized, in addition to 92,434 sanctions being applied for carrying knives and similar items, in accordance with the regulations on coexistence and public security.
The Police issued a call to residents to report criminal acts to the emergency telephone line 123 or to the anti-crime hotline 314 358 7212.
