Sinking of 'Go-Fast' vessel leaves 1,620 kg of cocaine seized in Colombian Pacific
According to ntn24.com, units of the Colombian National Navy intercepted a 'Go-Fast' type vessel in the waters of the southern Pacific, in an operation that resulted in the sinking of the ship and the seizure of 1,671 kilogrammes of illicit substances.
During the naval pursuit, the suspect vessel sank. Coast Guard units from Tumaco immediately deployed a search and rescue operation that enabled the three crew members on board to be brought to safety.
Those rescued were identified as two Colombian citizens and one Ecuadorian national. After being brought to safety, they were formally arrested in coordination with the Technical Investigation Body (CTI) of the Attorney General's Office.
Inspection of the cargo recovered from the sea confirmed the presence of 1,620 kilogrammes of cocaine hydrochloride and 51 kilogrammes of marijuana, all placed at the disposal of the justice system.
"With this result we prevented 17 million dollars from entering the finances of transnational crime and the commercialisation of four million doses in the illegal international market. We continue with operations against drug trafficking routes to bring those responsible before the courts," said spokespeople for the naval institution.
The operation thus neutralised cargo valued at 17 million dollars and prevented the distribution of four million doses in international illegal markets, according to the same source.
The procedure was the result of inter-institutional work between the Military Forces and judicial investigation bodies, within the framework of the strategy to control the maritime borders of the Colombian Pacific.
