Million-peso fine and deception: the backdrop to the homicide in Titiribí
According to eltiempo.com, Nicolás Caro Ángel, identified as Colombia's best mule packer, was murdered on 25 February 2026 on a rural path in the municipality of Titiribí, in the department of Antioquia. The crime was reportedly preceded by a personal whim, a million-peso fine, and a meeting that turned out to be false, facts that are said to have triggered the conflict with the leader of the armed group known as 'La Miel'.
Along with Caro Ángel, two other men were murdered on a road located 30 minutes from the urban centre of Titiribí. The triple homicide was classified as a massacre by the Institute for Studies on Development and Peace (Indepaz).
The differences between the victim and the leader of 'La Miel' are said to have escalated to become the motive for the murder, although the authorities did not publicly specify the details of the conflict at the time of the incident.
As part of the subsequent investigations, the General Prosecutor's Office arrested 15 members of 'La Miel' in Antioquia, including those with aliases 'Pinocho' and 'Hilder', who are suspected of bearing responsibility for the violent incidents recorded in the region.
