Explosive drones attack police unit in Aipe, Huila

The police station in the municipality of Aipe, in the department of Huila, was targeted by an attack with unmanned aircraft loaded with explosive material on Monday, 5 October 2026, around 5:00 p.m., according to infobae.com. The incident caused panic amongst the inhabitants of the locality.

The explosions triggered the immediate activation of a security and intelligence operation in the urban area of the municipality, with the aim of strengthening surveillance of the facilities and surrounding sectors.

Local authorities and the National Police issued a preliminary assessment to the local media outlet Diario de Huila: following the explosions recorded, no uniformed officers or civilians were injured, nor were there any deaths within the perimeter of the unit.

Origin and those responsible, yet to be determined

Although initial reports point to the use of drones, the authorities will need to establish with precision which devices were used, what their launch point was, and who would be responsible for the attack. To date, images released show material damage to the station, but no further details have been revealed about the circumstances of the incident.

It is expected that the authorities will present a more comprehensive report on the possible perpetrators and the factors that may have motivated the attack.

Reactions from the regional political sphere

The attack provoked immediate reactions in Huila's political sector. Chamber of Representatives member Julio César Triana publicly rejected the action and called for an institutional response to the use of this technology by illegal armed groups.

"I firmly reject the drone attack against the Aipe Police Station, Huila. All my solidarity and support to members of the Public Force who were exposed to this attack and who carry out the mission of protecting those in Huila," Triana wrote on his X account.

The congressman stressed the need to equip uniformed personnel with modern signal-jamming equipment to neutralise aerial threats at police units in the department. "These events remind us of the importance of continuing to strengthen the security of the department, with greater operational capacity, intelligence and technology to face the new tactics used by armed groups, including the threat of drones. We hope that the authorities manage to identify and capture those responsible and that justice acts with determination," Triana added.

Former Chamber of Representatives member for Huila Jaime Felipe Lozada circulated a video in which he attributed the incident to illegal structures in the region and demanded immediate offensive action. "I firmly reject the vile and cowardly attack with drones reported moments ago against the Aipe police station," declared Lozada.

In the same video, the former legislator directly named the Farc dissidents as responsible and demanded a coordinated response between the National Army and the Police: "The terrorists of the Farc dissidents must be combated and neutralised with all the legitimate capacity of the State. It is the duty of the National Army, in coordination with the police, to find those responsible, prevent new attacks and restore peace to those in Aipe and all those in Huila."

Lozada concluded with an explicit call: "We demand forceful operations and results as soon as possible. Our people cannot continue at the mercy of terrorists."

Request for military reinforcement in the department

Former congresswoman Luz Pastrana also spoke out and reiterated the urgency of strengthening military presence in the territory through specialised units. "My Huila continues to face difficult times in terms of security," she published on social networks.

Pastrana directed a formal request to the National Government: "I respectfully reiterate to the National Government the importance of advancing as soon as possible with the installation of the FUDRA, already announced for our department, and of continuing to strengthen efforts to protect our people and support our Public Force. Huila needs to recover its peace."

The use of drones as a weapon against the public force in the south of the country has generated growing concern amongst political representatives in the region, who agree on the need for technological and operational responses to this tactic of attack.
