Gang robbing casinos in Venice, Bogotá: three arrested and one minor detained
Police thwarted a theft of 18 million pesos at a casino in the Venice neighbourhood and seized two firearms and a motorcycle.

The National Police arrested three people and detained a minor accused of being part of a gang dedicated to robbing gambling establishments in south Bogotá, reported infobae.com. The operation, carried out in the Venice neighbourhood of Tunjuelito locality, prevented a theft of 18 million pesos in cash.
The Criminal Investigation Section of Tunjuelito conducted the procedure following investigative work and with support from a human source. The detainees face charges for the alleged crimes of theft and manufacture, trafficking, and illegal carrying of firearms.
Lieutenant Colonel Julián Cetina, commander of Tunjuelito Police Station, confirmed the details of the intervention. "We managed to prevent the theft of 18 million pesos from a casino in the Venice neighbourhood," Cetina stated.
During the operation, officers seized two firearms, three mobile phones, and a motorcycle. Those arrested and the seized items were placed at the disposal of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation for the corresponding judicial proceedings.
According to the National Police, those detained had records in the Accusatory Oral Penal System (Spoa) for aggravated theft and fraud. The institution reported these antecedents as part of the judicial information linked to the case.
Commander Cetina explained that the group assigned specific tasks among its members to carry out the robberies. "They assigned functions and specific roles that enabled them to commit these acts," he said. The available information does not specify how many additional robberies are attributed to the gang or how long it had been operating in the area.
Context: thefts from businesses in Bogotá decline in 2026
Figures from the Office of Information Analysis and Strategic Studies (Oaiee), compiled using data from the Siedco system and consulted on 16 September 2026, record 5,925 thefts from businesses in Bogotá between January and August, compared to 6,461 in the same period of 2025. The variation represents a reduction of 8.3 per cent, and theft from businesses ranks among the eight crimes with the lowest rate during 2026 according to the Security Secretariat.
In Tunjuelito, the locality where the operation took place, thefts from businesses fell from 123 to 97 cases in the same period, a decrease of 26 incidents. In August, the locality recorded four cases, compared to 13 in the same month of 2025.
So far in 2026, the National Police also reported the arrest of more than 27,953 people for various crimes in Bogotá and the seizure of 1,115 firearms in the city.
