River chase on Sinú River ends with capture of suspected thief
A man who allegedly attempted to rob a woman's belongings in Montería was ultimately captured in the Sinú River after jumping into the water to flee his pursuers, according to elheraldo.co.
The events occurred around 2:00 p.m. at street level 36, on the left bank of the Sinú River, opposite the Centro Verde. According to witnesses present at the scene, the man attempted to steal a woman's belongings in that area.
The alarm raised by the alleged robbery prompted an immediate reaction from bystanders and motorcycle taxi drivers in the area, who began pursuing the man, according to information from local media outlet Chica Noticias. Cornered and with no way out, the individual chose to jump into the waterway with the intention of evading his pursuers by swimming.
The escape attempt by water was thwarted by the intervention of the National Police. Police officers travelling aboard a Johnson-type vessel—colloquially known as a canoe—reached the man in the water, pulled him to safety and secured his capture.
The detained man, whose identity has not been revealed, was transferred to a police station and placed at the disposal of the competent authorities. It will be up to the judicial authorities to determine the exact circumstances of the robbery and establish his responsibility in the matter.
