Arrested in Tunja: driver who transported hitman of former mayor 'Jhon Calzones'
A second suspect in the murder of the former mayor of Yopal was arrested in Tunja. The prosecutor's office is investigating links with Farc dissidents and an order given from prison.

Second arrested for 'Jhon Calzones' murder: driver detained in Tunja
A joint operation by the CTI of the Office of the Attorney General and the National Police resulted in the arrest in Tunja of the second suspected participant in the homicide of former Yopal mayor Jhon Jairo Torres Torres, known as 'Jhon Calzones', according to elcolombiano.com. During the operation, authorities confiscated a mobile phone and two SIM cards from the detainee.
According to preliminary investigations, the arrested man was allegedly responsible for transporting to the scene of the attack the 17-year-old adolescent who fired the shots against Torres Torres. In the coming hours, a prosecutor assigned to the Casanare Regional Office will present him before a judge of guarantees to formalise his detention, charge him with the crimes of aggravated homicide and trafficking, possession or carrying of firearms, and request a custodial measure in a prison facility.
The attack at the 'La Selvita' property
The crime occurred in the morning of Tuesday, 29 September 2026, when Torres Torres was at the property 'La Selvita', a property located in the rural area of Yopal, in Casanare. The reconstruction of events indicates that two people on a motorcycle arrived at the residence. The passenger—a 17-year-old minor from Armenia (Quindío)—got off the vehicle and intercepted the victim, shooting him repeatedly.
Torres was urgently transferred to the Regional Hospital of the Orinoquía, but the severity of the wounds caused his death hours later. His death was officially confirmed by the Casanare Regional Government.
Accident interrupted the escape; minor apprehended at scene
The flight of the attackers on the motorcycle was interrupted by a traffic accident that occurred a short distance from the property. Local residents detained the minor and handed him over to National Police officers, while the vehicle's driver managed to escape.
The adolescent was placed at the disposal of the authorities under the rules of the Criminal Responsibility System for Adolescents. During the concentrated hearings conducted by a prosecutor from the Casanare Regional Office, the young man formally accepted all charges for aggravated homicide and illegal carrying of weapons. A judge determined that he must comply with a preventive detention measure in a specialised care facility whilst the judicial process against him concludes.
Lines of investigation: dissidents and an order from prison
The Judicial Police are working to establish the intellectual authorship and the collaboration network behind the homicide. One of the lines of investigation links the material perpetrators with the Farc dissidents led by alias 'Iván Mordisco'. Reports known to the authorities identify the driver who initially escaped as alias 'Eduar', a suspected member of the 28th Front and linked to the Jaime Martínez Front of the Western Bloc.
In parallel, the Office of the Attorney General indicated that it is considering as a preliminary hypothesis that the order for the crime may have been issued by a person deprived of liberty. This line of investigation is in a phase of verification and evidentiary testing.
Controversial figure in Casanare politics
The murder of 'Jhon Calzones' generated a significant impact on public opinion in Casanare. Torres maintained high visibility in departmental political life over the last decade, with a trajectory marked both by his rise to the mayoralty of Yopal and by multiple criminal cases and judicial controversies before the ordinary courts.
