Operation against micro-trafficking results in one arrest in La Unión neighbourhood

A 27-year-old man was arrested in flagrante delicto in commune 3 of Cúcuta, in the La Unión neighbourhood sector, for the alleged offence of trafficking, manufacturing or possession of narcotics. This is reported by policia.gov.co, following a joint operation between the Reaction and Action Group Against Homicide and Drug Trafficking (GRAHES) and units of the National Army.

During the search, officers found in the detainee's possession 45 plastic bags with hermetic seals containing a plant substance with characteristics similar to marijuana, weighing approximately 350 grams. The estimated commercial value of the substance exceeds 450,000 pesos and, apparently, was intended for sale in sectors near educational settings in the area.

The detainee was transferred, along with the seized substance, to the facilities of the Immediate Reaction Unit (URI) of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, where he was placed at the disposal of the competent authority for the initiation of the corresponding legal proceedings.

Colonel Pedro José Saavedra Pinzón, commander of the Metropolitan Police of Cúcuta, stated: "We continue intensifying our operational actions to counter micro-trafficking and prevent narcotic substances from reaching our neighbourhoods, parks and school settings. Our commitment is to protect our children and adolescents especially, working in an articulated manner with the authorities and the community to strengthen security and civic coexistence."

The National Police indicated that surveillance and control operations are being maintained in prioritised sectors of Cúcuta and municipalities in the metropolitan area. Citizens can report activities related to the sale of narcotics through the emergency line 123 or by informing the nearest patrol.
