Two arrests in San Cristóbal and Ciudad Bolívar for weapons and grenade

Bogotá Police arrested two men in separate operations carried out in the districts of San Cristóbal and Ciudad Bolívar, according to pulzo.com. In both cases, those detained were illegally carrying weapons or explosive devices.

The first operation took place in the San José neighbourhood in San Cristóbal during a public transport vehicle control operation. A patrol detected a man acting suspiciously who attempted to flee when approached by officers. After intercepting him, agents found a pistol with ammunition and two silencers hidden inside a fanny pack.

The second case occurred in Ciudad Bolívar after citizens alerted authorities to two people handling an unusual object. Upon noticing the police presence, one of the suspects escaped towards a wooded area. Relatives of the individual attempted to obstruct the pursuit using a dog, which complicated the officers' actions. Despite this, the police managed to locate and arrest the man.

In the area where the detainee allegedly threw the object whilst fleeing, a fragmentation grenade was found. A review of judicial records revealed that this arrested individual had a prior court order for illegal possession of weapons.

Both detainees, along with the seized items, were turned over to the competent authorities to answer for the charges against them.

According to reports published by Bogotá Police on their X account, these arrests are part of preventive and operational plans that have led to the detention of 29,356 people for various crimes in the city, as well as the seizure of 1,181 firearms. The authorities reiterated the importance of citizen reports through the Emergency Line 123 as a key tool in the fight against crime in Bogotá.
