Alleged Clan del Golfo hitman captured in Caucasia after fleeing raid in Montería
The National Police captured a 33-year-old man known by the alias "El Gordo Arrieta" in the municipality of Caucasia, Antioquia, identified as an alleged member of the Javier Yepes Cantero Subestructure of the GAO – "Clan del Golfo". According to policia.gov.co, the operation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Section, the Intelligence Section of the Montería Metropolitan Police and the National Army, under the coordination of the Attorney General's Office.
According to investigations, alias "El Gordo Arrieta" is allegedly linked to 15 homicides committed between 2025 and 2026 in urban and rural areas of Montería, crimes associated with settling scores under instructions from the criminal structure. When authorities conducted a raid on a property in that city to proceed with his capture, the man managed to escape and hid in Caucasia, where he was finally located and detained.
The investigation established that the arrested man has accumulated five years of experience within the Clan del Golfo: he allegedly began as a lookout and rose to acting as an alleged hitman over the past three years. To get close to some of his victims, he allegedly used clothing associated with delivery services as a camouflage method.
In addition to the charge of aggravated criminal conspiracy with intent to commit homicide that prompted the court order, "El Gordo Arrieta" is linked to five additional criminal proceedings for homicide and appears registered in criminal actor profiling systems as an alleged member of the structure.
The authorities stated that the capture represents a direct blow to the hitman component of the Javier Yepes Cantero Subestructure and contributes to progress in investigations into the homicides recorded in Montería. The detainee was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority for the corresponding hearings, within the framework of due process.
The National Police indicated that it will continue to strengthen its intelligence and criminal investigation capabilities in coordination with the Military Forces, with the aim of dismantling the structures responsible for threatening the lives and security of citizens.
