Bogotá Metropolitan Police captured a man accused of theft in the Teusaquillo locality after residents of the sector alerted authorities to the alleged robbery of a woman, pulzo.com reports. Patrol units from Teusaquillo Police Station immediately activated the so-called "plan candado" strategy, which consists of closing escape routes to facilitate the location of suspects, successfully detaining the individual several blocks further on.
During the procedure, officers seized a traumatic weapon with ammunition and recovered an electric bicycle and a mobile phone with a combined value exceeding 8 million pesos. The goods were returned to the victim once the corresponding legal procedures had been completed.
According to preliminary information cited by Bogotá Police, the individual captured is being investigated for possible involvement in other similar crimes committed in the same locality. Both the detainee and the seized items were placed at the disposal of the General Prosecutor's Office, the agency responsible for conducting the judicial process.
The operation falls within the operational plans that authorities have been reinforcing in Teusaquillo. In just the past week, Bogotá Police reported more than 50 detentions for various crimes in that locality. Authorities reiterated the importance of citizen reporting and urged the community to report any criminal activity through the Emergency Line 123.
