Officers from the Search Bloc of the Cali Police Service secured the apprehension of an individual related to Adolfo Macías, known as alias Fito, who heads the list of the most wanted drug traffickers in Ecuador and directs the criminal gang Los Choneros.

The arrest took place on Colombian soil. The detained man is accused of directing illegal collection operations in various municipalities in the department of Valle del Cauca. Among the affected localities are Bolívar, El Dovio, La Unión, Riofrío and Roldanillo. Investigators estimate that these criminal activities generated approximate monthly profits of ten million pesos.

Alias Fito came to international prominence after escaping in 2024 from a high-security prison in Ecuador. His escape triggered a spiral of violence that culminated in the assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio. Since that episode, the governments of Colombia and Ecuador have intensified intelligence-sharing and joint operations against cells affiliated with his organisation.

Authorities characterised the arrest as a significant breakthrough in combating organised crime of regional scale. By removing one of the structure's financial operators, the aim is to weaken the gang's capacity to sustain its illegal activities in both countries.
