An 11-year-old girl and her mother were murdered on 7 September 2026 inside a house in the Betania neighbourhood, Usme district, south of Bogotá, according to official information from the General Prosecutor's Office reported by pulzo.com. The alleged perpetrator is a 44-year-old man who accepted the charges and faces detention in prison.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the man suffocated the minor when she was about to leave for school. The crime was reportedly an act of retaliation against the girl's mother, following a previous argument between both adults.
When the woman returned from her work, the aggressor told her he had a "surprise", blindfolded her and attacked her with a cutting instrument, causing her death. Subsequently, he attempted to clean blood from the property to eliminate traces of the double murder.
In the early morning of 9 September, the man changed the clothing of the two victims and placed them in the seats of a private vehicle. He set off along the road connecting Bogotá with La Guajira, but later returned to the capital and continued towards Villavicencio, in the department of Meta.
It was at the height of the municipality of Chipaque, in Cundinamarca, where citizens alerted the authorities upon noticing the presence of two unresponsive people inside the vehicle. The immediate response enabled the capture of the man in flagrante delicto.
The General Prosecutor's Office charged the detainee with the crimes of aggravated femicide and concealment, alteration or destruction of material evidence. The accused accepted the charges during the proceedings. A judge of guarantees ordered his remand in prison whilst the investigation advances.
The authorities urged the public to report criminal acts or situations that jeopardise coexistence through the Emergency Line 123.
