Police foil robbery attempt in Salitre Greco and arrest two individuals with non-lethal weapons

A police officer patrolling the Salitre Greco sector in the Bogotá locality of Teusaquillo prevented the robbery of 30 million pesos from a citizen returning to his residence after making a bank withdrawal, according to pulzo.com reporting based on information from Bogotá Police and the District Secretariat of Security, Coexistence and Justice.

The officer witnessed the exact moment when two alleged criminals, travelling by motorcycle, approached the victim to rob him of the money. The intervention was immediate.

Upon noticing the police officer's presence, the suspects attempted to flee. Coordination between several patrol units and support from residents of the sector enabled the arrest of both individuals in the vicinity of the scene.

During the procedure, the authorities seized two non-lethal weapons—devices designed to intimidate or cause physical harm, generally not lethal—which those arrested allegedly used to threaten the victim. The two detainees were handed over to the Public Prosecutor's Office, where they face charges of theft and for the manufacture, trafficking and carrying of firearms.

The District Secretariat of Security, Coexistence and Justice posted a video of the operation on its official X account, highlighting the speed of the police response as a determining factor in foiling the crime.

The case is part of a criminal trend that authorities have identified in the capital: gangs specialised in following people who have made significant withdrawals from banking institutions in order to rob them of cash.

Bogotá Police reported that so far in 2026, they have arrested more than 28,432 people linked to various crimes, in addition to seizing 1,133 firearms in the city. The authorities highlighted citizen participation as a key element in curbing criminal activity, particularly in operations such as that recorded in Salitre Greco.
