A 30-year-old man was arrested in flagrante delicto in the Altos de la Cruz neighbourhood, in the Ciudad Bolívar locality, after a Bogotá Police drone detected his evasive behaviour during a patrol and control operation, reports semana.com.
Remotely Piloted Aerial Systems (Siart) were providing aerial support to ground units when their cameras focused on a motorcycle whose movements appeared suspicious. From the air, police officers observed that the driver was attempting to avoid the checkpoint. Ground patrols were alerted immediately and managed to intercept him.
A review of the vehicle revealed inconsistencies in the registration plate. Upon checking records, the authorities confirmed that the motorcycle had been reported as stolen on 17 July through a method known as "halado".
The man was placed at the disposal of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation on suspicion of the crime of receiving stolen goods, along with the recovered vehicle. During the same procedure, authorities established that the arrested man had a criminal record for trafficking, manufacturing, or carrying narcotics.
The operation illustrates the growing role of drones in the capital's security apparatus. According to the Police, the Siart Group has supported multiple activities during the course of 2026, a period in which the authorities report 71 arrests for various crimes thanks to the support of these aerial units.
In this case, surveillance from the air covered the angle that the driver believed no one could see: while attempting to slip away from uniformed officers on the ground, the drone tracked his trajectory metre by metre. It was that second perspective that led to the irregular registration plate and, behind it, to a vehicle with a history of theft.
