Thwarted robbery attempt in Barrios Unidos: suspect captured wounded on NQS avenue

Armed victim foils robbery in Barrios Unidos and police capture suspect with Candado Plan
An attempted theft in the Barrios Unidos locality ended with a suspect detained and wounded after the victim himself shot him, according to pulzo.com reporting based on information from Bogotá's Mayor's Office.
The incident occurred on NQS avenue, near Calle 80, when four men travelling on two motorcycles attempted to intercept a citizen who was carrying a large sum of money in foreign currency. Seeing himself threatened, the victim drew a firearm he owned and wounded one of the suspected criminals in the leg.
Activation of Candado Plan and police pursuit
Bogotá's Metropolitan Police responded immediately by activating the Candado Plan, an operational strategy that closes possible escape routes in the area where an ongoing crime is being reported. Several patrols were deployed in the zone and managed to locate and detain one of those involved whilst still travelling on one of the motorcycles used during the attempted robbery.
The detainee was subsequently transferred to a medical facility to receive treatment for the bullet wound to his leg.
Firearm, ballistic vest and criminal record
During a search of the detainee, officers found in his possession a 9-millimetre calibre pistol, a ballistic vest and an image alluding to "Santa Muerte", a figure associated at times with protective practices within certain criminal groups.
The man, 46 years old, has a criminal record for illegal possession of firearms and for aggravated and compounded theft. All the money that had been stolen was recovered and placed in the custody of the authorities. The suspect was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authorities for the determination of his legal status.
Framework of the 'Bogotá Walks Safely' strategy
The intervention was carried out within the framework of the comprehensive security strategy called 'Bogotá Walks Safely', through which the district administration seeks to reduce theft rates in the Colombian capital. The Candado Plan forms part of the actions contemplated in that initiative to increase the likelihood of capturing suspects after the commission of a crime.
Bogotá's Police urged the public to report criminal conduct or conduct contrary to coexistence through the Emergency Line 123.
