Cristian David Garzón Castro, a 27-year-old guard from TransMilenio's fare enforcement squad, was killed on Friday 18 September 2026 at Terreros station in the municipality of Soacha after demanding fare payment from a couple who allegedly entered the transport system irregularly. According to infobae.com, the man sustained stab wounds to the chest when intervening also in defence of a colleague who was attacked by the same fare evaders.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. Garzón was immediately transferred to the IPS Virrey Solís hospital in Soacha, but died minutes later due to the severity of his injuries.
Background of those arrested
The couple was detained in flagrante delicto by units of the Soacha Metropolitan Police within the same station where the attack occurred. The man accused of perpetrating the assault has no known criminal record. The woman, however, has prior convictions for qualified theft, failure to pay child support, drug trafficking and manufacture of narcotics, and domestic violence, according to information reported by El Tiempo.
Both were placed at the disposal of the authorities and would be presented before the General Prosecutor's Office to begin the judicial process. A judge of the Republic will determine the criminal consequences, should their responsibility for the homicide be confirmed.
TransMilenio's response
TransMilenio S.A. issued a statement clarifying that Garzón was a member of the fare enforcement squad of a private company providing services to the system. The entity stated that it would provide all information required by the authorities to clarify what occurred.
"With profound sorrow, we join in mourning the loss of Cristian David Garzón Castro, one of our fare enforcement squad security personnel. Cristian was the victim of an attack with a bladed weapon at Terreros station in Soacha, an act that leaves us appalled and deeply sad," said company spokespeople.
"We firmly reject any form of violence that threatens the life, integrity and safety of all those who are part of our System. Peace and respect are values we must protect and promote," they added, while extending their condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the victim.
Statements from mayors
The mayor of Soacha, Julián Sánchez Perico, condemned the crime and called for swift investigation. "A person carrying out their duties should not lose their life for demanding compliance with regulations," stated the municipal official. Sánchez Perico thanked the Police, the Prosecutor's Office and the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI), and made an appeal to the residents of Soacha: "More respect for life, more tolerance and zero violence. No situation can justify an act like this."
The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, stated that the police response made it possible to capture the two people who "would be responsible for the crime." "It is not acceptable that the life of this 27-year-old young man should be cut short in this manner," stated Galán, who added that the administration would collaborate with the Prosecutor's Office so that those arrested "pay for what they did and remain in prison."
The homicide occurred in the context of enforcement operations against fare evasion at stations in the capital's mass transit system.
