A 39-year-old man was detained in Sabaneta, Antioquia, after striking three traffic officers who were carrying out a motorcycle immobilisation procedure in the Calle Larga sector, according to infobae.com. The Municipal Administration confirmed that the detainee was placed at the disposal of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation for the crime of violence against a public official.
The incident occurred whilst the officers were carrying out traffic regulation duties and enforcing traffic regulations. An initial argument escalated into physical assault and also caused material damage.
The video circulating on social media
A video posted on social media shows a man in a black t-shirt and jeans pushing and hitting one of the officers, whilst another agent was holding the motorcycle during the procedure. The assaults lasted several seconds despite the efforts of the uniformed officers to retain the vehicle, and affected all three agents participating in the operation.
The recording also captures how several neighbours in the sector came out to observe the situation after hearing insults directed at the officers. When some of them attempted to help the agents, the assailant fled running down one of the streets in the neighbourhood.
Escape, hiding and capture
According to authorities, the man attempted to hide in a house after noticing the arrival of the police, and fled again upon noting the police presence once more. The pursuit was supported by surveillance cameras installed in the municipality. Officers pursued him on foot until the suspect fell to the ground and was taken into custody to continue with the legal process.
The Municipal Administration issued a call for respect of traffic control procedures and compliance with traffic regulations during officer operations.
Case in Medellín: officer thrown in front of a truck
In a separate incident that occurred on 22 July 2026 in the Industriales sector in Medellín, a motorcyclist reacted violently to the imposition of a fine and immobilisation of his vehicle during a check on one of the main roads in the Antioquia capital.
The operation began when the officer detected that the motorcycle was circulating with a licence plate positioned in such a way as to prevent proper identification. This irregularity prompted the vehicle to be stopped and the penalty to be issued. The authorities also established that the driver was allegedly providing an informal transport service through a digital platform, an infraction that was added to those already detected.
Upon learning of the measures, the motorcyclist attempted to avoid the procedure. During the struggle, he threw the officer to the ground on several occasions; one of the falls left him near a truck that was travelling along the road corridor.
"This person, in attempting to evade responsibility, turns against our officer and assaults him physically on several occasions, putting his life at risk by throwing him close to the path of a truck that was passing through the location," declared the Mobility Secretary, Pablo Ruiz.
Ruiz anticipated that the Office of the Attorney General could review the case under the charge of attempted homicide. The driver was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities after the procedure.
