A man died from stab wounds in the Restrepo neighbourhood, south of Bogotá, after attempting to protect a woman attacked by a minor. A second intervener was wounded in the arm.

A man identified as Joseph died in the early morning hours of Thursday, 24 September after suffering multiple stab wounds to the groin in the Restrepo sector, in the locality of Antonio Nariño, south of Bogotá. According to infobae.com, the attack occurred on Wednesday, 23 September at around 2:38 p.m., when the victim attempted to intervene to protect a woman who was being threatened with a knife by a teenager.
A second man, identified as Carlos, suffered a wound that went through his arm during the same incident. Both were taken to the Policlínico del Olaya, where they received medical attention, but Joseph died hours later due to the severity of his injuries and severe blood loss.
The attack, recorded by security cameras
Cameras in the sector captured part of the sequence. In the images, the teenager can be seen holding a blade while threatening a woman who was accompanied by a child, which prompted several people from nearby shops to come out to help her.
A witness who asked to keep their identity confidential told CityTV that the alert originated from a hairdressing salon close to the location. "It is evident from the salon that a man was assaulting a woman and a minor, he was beating them," the witness stated.
According to that account, it was precisely Joseph and Carlos, the latter a stylist at that salon, who decided to approach to intervene. "So Joseph and Carlos went over to persuade the man not to do anything to them because the child was calling for help," the witness added to the regional channel.
Two wounded, one dead
The confrontation escalated immediately. The teenager reacted with the blade and attacked the two men: he stabbed Carlos through the arm, and pursued Joseph until he fell to the ground. "Joseph falls to the ground and he stabs him in the groin," the witness recounted.
According to the same source, Joseph managed to get up and run before collapsing again. "They managed to get him to hospital and he died this morning," the witness added, attributing the death to the severity of the wounds and the blood loss suffered.
At the Policlínico del Olaya, the medical team treated the two men, but the procedures were not sufficient to save Joseph's life.
Teenager apprehended; investigation ongoing
The assault triggered a citizen alert channelled through the 123 line, which allowed authorities to arrive at the scene and apprehend the teenager, whose age is estimated to be between 16 and 17 years old. The young man was placed at the disposal of the competent authorities.
The investigation seeks to establish how the confrontation originated, what occurred before the first attack on the woman, and under what exact circumstances the fatal injuries were produced. Authorities will have to determine the minor's responsibility and the judicial measures applicable for Joseph's death.
