Seizure in Buesaco: 15 kg of heroin and fentanyl destined for US via Ecuador and Mexico
The Colombian National Police and the FBI seized 15 kg of heroin and fentanyl ampoules in a rural area of Buesaco, Nariño. The drugs were to be transported by land to Ecuador, Mexico and finally the US.

On 14 September, the Colombian National Police, in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), seized 15 kilograms of heroin, several fentanyl ampoules and 500 cartridges of 5.56 millimetre calibre in a rural area of the municipality of Buesaco, Nariño, according to analisisurbano.org.
The operation was carried out by investigators from the Criminal Investigation Directorate and INTERPOL (DIJIN), together with the Special Operations Group (GOES) of the Nariño Police Department. The authorities established that the drugs would be transported by land from Colombia to Ecuador, to then be taken to Mexico and finally introduced into the illegal market in the United States.
Colonel Elver Vicente Alfonso S., director of Criminal Investigation and INTERPOL, indicated that investigative work made it possible to determine that the drugs and ammunition would belong to a structure dedicated to transnational heroin trafficking that would operate under the modality of criminal "outsourcing" or subcontracting.
According to information provided by the institution, this organisation would allegedly be in service of the ELN. The authorities attribute this hypothesis to the progress of the investigation. No arrests were reported during the procedure.
The Police stated that the seizure interrupted part of the logistical and distribution chain of opioids to North America, also affecting the illicit finances of armed networks operating in south-western Colombia.
The heroin, fentanyl ampoules, ammunition and other items seized were placed at the disposal of the General Prosecutor's Office for corresponding legal proceedings.
