A violent incident shook the Chapinero locality on a day when several families were attending graduation ceremonies at the Catholic University. According to preliminary information obtained by pulzo.com, a group of at least six individuals, identified as alleged football hooligans, pursued their victims from several blocks away in a taxi before getting out and attacking them.
The chase ended at Carrera 9 with Calle 47, in front of the university entrance. The attackers got out of the vehicle and first assaulted several students and bystanders in the area, causing widespread panic and forcing those present to flee for safety.
The most serious assault was concentrated on a young person whom the attackers cornered inside a nearby commercial establishment. Images recorded by witnesses show the moment when several individuals beat him in a group. The interior of the establishment was left with abundant traces of blood on the floor, evidence of the multiple sharp weapon wounds the victim received. Emergency responders attended to him on site and urgently transferred him to a medical facility.
Pulzo.com reports that the incident would be the result of a prior personal conflict between those involved, although authorities have yet to officially confirm the motives for the attack.
Minutes after the first citizen alerts, units from the Bogotá Metropolitan Police arrived at the scene, dispersed those involved, and secured the area. Officers collected available video records from the zone in order to fully identify those responsible and establish the whereabouts of those who participated in the attempted murder.
