Foiled theft attempt in Barrios Unidos: suspect arrested on NQS avenue

Four men on two motorcycles attempted to rob foreign currency on NQS avenue

According to pulzo.com, four men travelling on two motorcycles attempted to intercept a citizen who was carrying a large sum of foreign currency on NQS avenue, near Calle 80, in the Barrios Unidos locality. The victim, upon being threatened, made use of a firearm in their possession and wounded one of the suspected offenders in the leg.

Bogotá Metropolitan Police responded immediately by activating Plan Candado, an operational strategy designed to block possible escape routes in a given area when a crime is in progress. Several patrols initiated a pursuit that concluded with the arrest of one of those involved, who was still travelling on one of the motorcycles used during the robbery attempt. The detainee was subsequently transferred to a healthcare facility to receive medical attention for the gunshot wound.

During a search of the detainee, uniformed officers found in their possession a 9-millimetre pistol, a ballistic vest and an image relating to Santa Muerte, a figure associated in some cases with protection practices within certain criminal groups. The man, aged 46, has a criminal record for illegal possession of firearms and for aggravated theft.

All of the money was recovered and placed under the custody of the authorities. The detainee was placed at the disposal of the corresponding judicial authorities for the determination of their legal situation.

The operation was carried out as part of the comprehensive security strategy 'Bogotá Camina Segura', promoted by the District Mayor's Office. Bogotá Police reiterated to the public the importance of reporting criminal conduct through the Emergency Line 123.
