Disciplinary investigation into San Diego CAI police officers over assault of minor and woman in Bogotá
A video shared on social media exposes an alleged abuse of authority by police in central Bogotá. A disciplinary investigation has been opened against the uniformed officers involved.
San Diego CAI police officers under investigation for alleged assault of women
A video published on social media triggered a disciplinary investigation against several police officers attached to the San Diego CAI, in central Bogotá, according to caracol.com.co. The images show the alleged excessive use of force against a group of women, including a minor, during an incident that occurred on 8 August.
Colonel Nelson Perdomo, commander of the Santa Fe Police Station, explained that the facts originated during a search of persons requested by the CAI uniformed officers. According to his account, one of those required attempted to flee and was intercepted several blocks away from the location; at that moment he assaulted a uniformed officer and was immediately transferred to the Police Unit for prosecution.
"Following this, this group of people arrived at the CAI and, in a violent manner, with foul language and mistreatment, attempted to enter the facilities. It was then that a 17-year-old minor assaulted the uniformed officer, which made it necessary to make legitimate use of force," stated Colonel Perdomo.
As a result of the operation, a man was arrested for the alleged crime of violence against a public servant. The individual also had a prior citation for violation of the Citizen Security and Coexistence Code. The 17-year-old minor was apprehended for the same crime and for damage to others' property.
The National Police issued an institutional statement through Colonel Perdomo: "The National Police rejects any fact that involves the participation of police officers in acts that go against constitutional precepts and is in full disposition to support the investigations being carried out by the competent authorities."
