Arrest in flagrante delicto in Bogotá: firearm with Venezuelan flag among detainee's possessions

A 19-year-old man was arrested in flagrante delicto in the La Esmeralda neighbourhood, Teusaquillo locality, in Bogotá, accused of committing a violent theft against a woman, according to ntn24.com. The man allegedly snatched an electric bicycle and a mobile telephone from the victim before being intercepted by officers from the Metropolitan Police.

The operation was activated after the victim alerted members of the community, who in turn informed officers who were patrolling the area. The authorities implemented a cordon operation that allowed them to locate the suspect several blocks away from where the robbery reportedly took place.

During a search of the detainee's possessions, police officers found a loaded traumatic firearm with ammunition that had a particular detail: a Venezuelan flag attached via a sticker. "This traumatic firearm was seized, with a Venezuelan flag and ammunition," the Metropolitan Police reported through its X account.

According to the authorities, the firearm had been used to intimidate the victim during the robbery. In addition to the weapon, officers recovered the stolen items, whose value was estimated at more than eight million pesos.

The young man was placed at the disposal of the competent authorities to proceed with the corresponding judicial process. Bogotá's Metropolitan Police highlighted the success of the cordon operation and the community's timely reaction as key factors in the arrest.

The investigation of the case continues as the authorities advance with the judicial proceedings against the detainee.
