Judge legalises arrest of alias Víctor Chalá, accused of murdering journalist Mateo Pérez
A judge validated the detention of alias Víctor Chalá, the alleged perpetrator of the murder of communicator Mateo Pérez Rueda, who was captured along with five security businessmen at a tollbooth in Tolima.

A magistrate confirmed as lawful the detention of the individual known as Víctor Chalá, who is considered the mastermind behind the murder of journalist Mateo Pérez Rueda. The judicial proceedings were conducted by remote means on 14 June.
Since the crime was committed—which occurred days earlier in the rural area of Palmichal, in the municipality of Briceño, Antioquia—Chalá was among the most wanted individuals by the authorities in that department.
The arrest was carried out at a toll booth in Tolima, where five private security businessmen operating in Antioquia were also apprehended.
The raid and subsequent capture were coordinated by the Special Counter-Terrorist Reaction Group (Grate), a division of the Dijín of the police institution.
Chalá faces charges including terrorism, illegal association, extortion and unauthorised possession of war material. The judicial decision ordered him to serve preventive detention in a penitentiary in Bogotá.
The five individuals detained along with him were charged with illegal association and illegal possession of war material. They likewise received orders of imprisonment.
According to reporting by Noticias Caracol, investigators are analysing whether it was a scheme to remove firearms from the security company and deliver them to the dissident faction led by alias Calarcá.
