The National Police effected the arrest of a woman in the municipality of Inírida, department of Guainía, on suspicion of the crime of extortion, according to information from policia.gov.co.
The case originated following a complaint from a citizen who reported having been contacted by individuals claiming to have in their possession a mobile telephone that she had lost. The callers demanded a sum of money in exchange for returning the device.
Officers from the Criminal Investigation Section (SIJIN) carried out the corresponding verification and investigation activities, managing to gather relevant information to establish the circumstances of the case.
As a result of the procedure, the suspected party was arrested and placed at the disposal of the competent authority for the relevant legal proceedings.
The National Police urged citizens to report promptly any acts affecting coexistence and security, reiterating its commitment to the prevention and investigation of criminal conduct in the department of Guainía.
