A National Police patrol officer was shot dead in the early hours of Sunday, 13 September whilst performing surveillance duties at the entrance of Timbiquí Police Station in the municipality of Timbiquí, Cauca, according to reports from noticiasrcn.com.

The victim was identified as José David Ahumada Mendoza, aged 24. An unidentified man approached him and opened fire; the young uniformed officer died at the scene.

The exact circumstances of the crime are being investigated by the competent authorities, who are working to establish the motives behind the attack and the identity of the person responsible. To date, no arrests related to the case have been recorded.

A search operation for the attacker was immediately activated. The institution also deployed an intelligence and criminal investigation team with the aim of identifying, capturing, and bringing the perpetrator of the homicide to justice.

Through an official statement, the Police rejected the acts and expressed their condolences: "We express condolences to the family and colleagues of Police Officer José David Ahumada Mendoza, murdered in the early hours of today by a criminal who fired a weapon against the uniformed officer."
