Bogotá police officer detects suspicious motorcycle and prevents major robbery of elderly man
The timely intervention of patrol officer Henry González, of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, thwarted a robbery in which two alleged criminals attempted to steal 30 million pesos from an elderly man who had just withdrawn the money from a banking entity, according to noticiasrcn.com.
The incident occurred around 11:30 in the morning, while González was carrying out surveillance duties in the area. The uniformed officer detected a motorcycle with unusual behaviour that caught his attention. "I noticed there was a motorcycle with suspicious conduct," he recounted in an interview with the media outlet.
Upon approaching the scene, González found two people attempting to rob the elderly citizen of his money. He immediately identified himself as a member of the National Police and attempted to detain the suspects, at which point a struggle ensued with one of them. "He managed to break free and fled," the patrol officer described.
Coordination with other police officers in the district made it possible to intercept the suspect just metres away. Both detainees were carrying traumatic weapons, authorities confirmed.
González also revealed that the incident coincided with his daughter's first birthday, but stated that at that moment his priority was different. "The life of this person took priority," he affirmed when describing what went through his mind as he confronted the alleged criminals.
The authorities highlighted the actions of the uniformed officer, whose quick reaction prevented the robbery from being completed. The case was turned over to judicial authorities to proceed with the case against the two detainees.
