Shooting in Puente Aranda leaves two criminals dead after attempted robbery of police officer
A Jungle Command officer killed two suspected robbers in the La Francia neighbourhood, in the Puente Aranda district, west of Bogotá, after a group of armed individuals attempted to rob him of his vehicle. According to noticiasrcn.com, a third suspect was injured and remains hospitalised under investigation by the authorities.
According to a report from Bogotá's Metropolitan Police, several armed individuals approached the officer with the intention of stealing his vehicle. In the face of a threat to his life and safety, the officer used his service weapon in self-defence, striking three people with gunfire.
One of the criminals died at the scene. The other two, despite being wounded, abandoned their accomplice's body and fled in a vehicle. However, the severity of their injuries forced them to stop and enter a medical facility in search of urgent medical attention.
The authorities confirmed that one of the two fugitives died in the rear of the vehicle before receiving medical assistance, whilst the third remained hospitalised under police custody.
The police are also investigating whether the vehicle that the suspected criminals left parked outside the hospital comes from another criminal incident. The vehicle was placed under the custody of the authorities for the respective verifications.
Investigations are continuing with the hospitalised survivor, in order to establish his identity and determine whether there are additional accomplices linked to the attempted robbery. The Jungle Command police officer, victim of the attack, was not injured during the confrontation and gave a statement to the authorities, who are analysing the exact circumstances of the incident.
