Identity of hitman in double crime in Chapinero revealed; offensive results in 64 adults arrested
The Metropolitan Police of Bogotá released the image and identity of Isaac Daniel Rodríguez García, identified as the alleged hitman responsible for the murder of rice businessman Gustavo Andrés Aponte Fonnegra and his bodyguard, Luis Gabriel Gutiérrez Garzón, which took place outside a gymnasium in the north of the city, in the Chapinero locality.
According to lafm.com.co, the image of Rodríguez García was released during the presentation of the so-called 'most wanted cartel', as part of a police offensive against homicide which, since 7 August, has resulted in 64 adults arrested and one minor apprehended.
The authorities requested public collaboration to obtain information that would allow them to locate and capture Rodríguez García, who remains at large.
Hypothesis of mistaken identity
According to an investigation by the Office of the Public Prosecutor, the criminal structure involved in the attack would have organised surveillance operations on the victims through motorcycles and coordinated monitoring via messaging platforms.
One of the main hypotheses points to a case of mistaken identity: according to this investigative line, Rodríguez García would have confused businessman Aponte Fonnegra with another merchant who was the true target of the criminal organisation.
Balance of the offensive: 64 adults and one minor
Of the total adults arrested, 60 are men and four are women. According to the official tally, 37 detentions were carried out by judicial warrant as a result of investigations conducted by the SIJÍN, whilst the remaining 27 were made in flagrante delicto.
The proceedings took place in different localities of Bogotá and correspond to cases linked to homicides under investigation by the authorities.
Among the results is the capture of alias 'el gordo', a member of the city's most wanted cartel, accused of a homicide committed during a brawl with a bladed weapon in the Guacamayas neighbourhood, in the San Cristóbal locality. The man had fled to Chile after committing the crime, where he remained for approximately eight months before returning to Bogotá, where he was located and detained.
The Police also reported that among those arrested are several alleged hitmen linked to micro-trafficking in the Engativá locality, as well as individuals accused of participating in domestic violence incidents, feminicides, brawls and episodes of intolerance.
In Tunjuelito, meanwhile, a 17-year-old adolescent was apprehended by judicial warrant, accused of participating in the theft and subsequent murder of a citizen in Girardot.
The authorities presented these results as part of the intelligence, investigation and patrol operations deployed against homicide in the capital.
