Bogotá reveals identity of hitman sought for death of businessman and bodyguard in Chapinero

The Metropolitan Police of Bogotá made public the identity of Isaac Daniel Rodríguez García, identified as one of the alleged perpetrators of the double murder of rice businessman Gustavo Andrés Aponte Fonnegra and his bodyguard, Luis Gabriel Gutiérrez Garzón, carried out outside a gym in the Chapinero locality in February 2026, according to bogota.alerta.com.co.

The disclosure took place during the official presentation of the "most wanted" poster for homicide in the capital. In that setting, authorities requested citizen collaboration to obtain information about Rodríguez García's whereabouts, whom police identify as "the most wanted for homicide" in the city.

According to investigations conducted by the General Prosecutor's Office, the criminal structure behind the attack organised a scheme to follow the victims using motorcycles and communication via messaging platforms. One of the central hypotheses in the case points to a case of mistaken identity: Rodríguez García allegedly confused businessman Aponte Fonnegra with another merchant who was the band's actual target. The accused remains a fugitive from justice.

At the same press conference, General Giovanni Cristancho Zambrano, commander of the Metropolitan Police of Bogotá, presented a report on the offensive against homicide conducted in the city since 7 August.

"It is worth noting that the majority of these detainees have records for various offences. Among the most relevant cases is the capture of alias 'El Gordo', who was on the most wanted poster for the crime of homicide," said Cristancho Zambrano. The officer also reported on the detention of "an alleged hitman co-ordinating drug trafficking in the Engativá locality" and of a man accused of participating in a double homicide in Ciudad Bolívar, "apparently over a cap".

Authorities reiterated the call to the community to contact emergency and police intelligence lines and provide information that would facilitate the location of Rodríguez García.
