The Office of the Attorney General identified and brought before a judge overseeing guarantees eight Venezuelan citizens allegedly members of the criminal organisation Tren de Aragua, for their involvement in the murder of teacher Kevin Santiago Ángel. According to semana.com, the events occurred between 20 and 22 May 2026 in the Kennedy locality, in south-west Bogotá.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the sporting activities that the teacher promoted with young people in the area to prevent drug consumption "would have interfered with the criminal interests of Tren de Aragua" in that area of the capital. The investigation determined that the attack was directly related to the community leadership exercised by the victim.
The inquiry received support from the United States agency the DEA, which participated in more than 80 judicial police activities. The evidence gathered made it possible to establish the network of responsibilities and the specific roles that each of those involved in the execution of the crime played.
The probative elements also revealed that, whilst the victim remained detained, two of the defendants—identified by the aliases Alondra and Mario Bro—used the teacher's mobile telephone to make purchases at a commercial establishment in the area.
A prosecutor from the Special Investigation Unit (UEI) charged the eight defendants with the offences of murder, torture, forced disappearance and criminal conspiracy, all with circumstances of punitive aggravation. Additionally, they were charged with concealment, alteration or destruction of material evidence.
The charges allege that those involved participated in the detention of the teacher, acts of torture against him, the dismemberment of the body and its subsequent concealment. During the court proceedings, none of the eight defendants accepted the charges presented by the investigating body.
