Police investigation launched following minor's escape from Omodia police station
A disciplinary investigation was launched on Saturday following the brief escape of a 17-year-old from Omodia police station in Nicosia, which took place the previous afternoon, following an order from Police Chief Themistou Arnaoutis.
The minor, who was being held in connection with an investigation into theft and unlawful possession of property, managed to escape from the station late on Friday afternoon, before being recaptured several hours later.
According to the police, immediately after the incident a coordinated operation was put into effect with intensified patrols throughout Nicosia. The Police Chief, after reviewing the relevant report, appointed an investigating officer to determine whether disciplinary responsibility arises on the part of an active police officer.
In parallel, procedures have been initiated for the removal of the officer from his duties. The police announced that the investigation into the circumstances of the escape continues, whilst the case file has been supplemented with the incident at Omodia police station.
Investigations continue both into the original theft case and into the handling of the detention at the said station.
