10 arrests in island-wide police operations – 21 drink-drive suspects
Ten people were arrested for offences including attempted murder and drug-related crimes, whilst 21 drivers tested positive for alcohol during overnight operations.
Ten arrests and 21 drunk drivers in overnight police operations
Ten people were arrested in organised police operations carried out across Cyprus overnight, according to Philenews. The offences for which they are accused include attempted murder, causing bodily harm, conspiracy to commit a felony, abduction, unlawful possession of drugs and unlawful residence in the Republic of Cyprus.
During the night, police units stopped 590 vehicles for inspection, examining a total of 788 drivers and passengers. Of the 320 alcohol checks carried out, 21 drivers tested positive. One drug test was also conducted, which returned a positive result.
As part of traffic control checks, a total of 382 citations were recorded for violations, of which 51 concerned speeding. At the same time, 20 vehicles were impounded and 43 premises inspections were conducted, resulting in one citation.
The operations aimed to prevent serious criminal activity, ensure public order and strengthen citizens' sense of safety. According to police, targeted checks at key locations in urban areas will continue on a daily basis with enhanced presence and immediate operational action.
