16 arrests in one night in Cyprus – assault on police officer and 380 traffic violations

Sixteen people were arrested in one night in Cyprus during coordinated police operations. 380 traffic violations were recorded and an assault on a police officer.

Coordinated patrols across Cyprus: 16 arrests and hundreds of violations

Sixteen people were arrested in a single night during police operations conducted in urban areas throughout Cyprus, according to Philenews. The offences for which arrests were made include illegal possession of drugs, unlawful residence in the Republic, assault on a police officer, and carrying a knife.

As part of the operations, 662 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 865 passengers were examined. Meanwhile, 60 inspections were carried out in premises to address criminal activity, resulting in 5 reports.

Traffic inspections yielded a total of 380 reports for various traffic violations, with 23 additional cases still under investigation. Of the 380 reports, 131 concerned speeding. Additionally, 16 vehicles were impounded.

A total of 101 breath tests were conducted, resulting in 15 reports. In 6 preliminary drug tests, four results were positive.

The aim of the coordinated night-time patrols was to prevent serious criminal activity, maintain public order, and strengthen the sense of security among citizens.
