16 arrests in single night across Cyprus – 865 persons checked
Police arrested 16 people in a single night for offences including drug possession, carrying an offensive weapon and assault. A total of 865 persons and 662 vehicles were checked across Cyprus.

Sixteen arrests during overnight police operations
Sixteen people were arrested during a single night across Cyprus, according to Politis, following organised police operations aimed at preventing serious criminal acts and ensuring public order.
The offences for which the 16 people were brought in include unlawful possession of drugs, unlawful residence in the Republic, assault against a police officer and carrying an offensive weapon.
Extensive vehicle and premises checks
As part of the operations, 662 vehicles were stopped and 865 passengers were checked. In parallel, 60 checks were carried out on premises to address criminal activity, which resulted in 5 reports.
Traffic violations and alcohol
During traffic control checks, 380 violations were reported, whilst 23 cases are still under investigation. Of these reports, 131 concerned speeding. A total of 16 vehicles were seized.
A total of 101 alcohol checks were carried out, which resulted in 15 reports. Six preliminary drug-test checks were also conducted, with four positive results.
Continued police presence
The Police announced that crime prevention and suppression operations continue daily, with increased presence at key locations in urban areas, targeted checks and immediate operational action.
