A police officer has been removed from duties after a 17-year-old detainee escaped from Omorfita police station. The youth was recaptured following an operation.

A minor, aged 17, who was being held at Omorfita Police Station in Nicosia on a theft matter, managed to escape late yesterday afternoon. Immediately following the incident, the authorities mobilised extensive patrols throughout the capital to locate him. The Crisis Management Centre was placed on standby to coordinate the investigation. After several hours, the youth was located and recaptured, on the basis of a court warrant, at another station in Nicosia.
The Head of Police, Themistus Arnaoutis, having reviewed the incident report, assigned a senior officer to investigate whether there is disciplinary responsibility for any member of the force. Simultaneously, an order was issued to temporarily remove the officer in question from duties, pending completion of the internal investigation.
