Police officer placed on standby following minor's escape from Nicosia station
A police officer has been temporarily removed from duties following the escape of a 17-year-old from the Omorfita Station. The head of police, Themistos Arnaoutis, tasked a senior officer with investigating any disciplinary lapses that led to the incident.
The minor was being held for investigation into a theft case. On Thursday evening, he managed to escape from the detention cell. A broad search operation was immediately activated with reinforced patrols across Nicosia. The Crisis Management Centre opened urgently to coordinate the movements of the forces.
After a few hours, the 17-year-old was located and arrested again on the basis of a court warrant at a different police station in the capital.
