Police arrested a 36-year-old man as the second suspect in a case involving an alleged attack using an explosive device on business premises in Paphos. The arrest was made on Friday evening pursuant to a court warrant, after new evidence emerged during the ongoing investigation. The arrested man is expected to be brought before court for the issuance of a detention order.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of 30 March, when an explosion struck the exterior section of company offices in the city of Paphos. The explosion caused cracks to the glass entrance and damage to the external walls of the building. Specialists who examined the scene of the incident determined that an incendiary device containing flammable material had been placed outside the premises. Investigators also located a factory-manufactured firework that is believed to have been used in the attack.
This recent arrest follows the arrest of a 46-year-old man on 1 April in connection with the same case. The older suspect remains in custody after being charged before the Permanent Criminal Court of Paphos.
Authorities have not disclosed the type of business that was targeted, nor possible motives behind the attack. It is also unclear whether additional suspects are being sought.
The Paphos Criminal Investigation Department is directing the investigation, continuing to examine material collected from the scene of the incident and from further investigations.
