The Limassol District Court imposed two life sentences on a young man aged 25, convicting him of two premeditated murders that took place on 30 July 2024 in the Listovuno-Arakapá area.
The court decided that the two murders constitute separate criminal acts, although they were committed within a short timeframe. This decision is significant for any future parole application, as 25 years must be served before one can be submitted.
The victims were a 39-year-old from Arakapá and a 38-year-old from Slovakia. Their bodies were found inside a car that had been engulfed in flames on a rural road between Parekklissiá and Kellákia. Forensic examination revealed that their deaths resulted from gunshot wounds to the head with a weapon used for hunting.
According to what the court accepted, the convicted man and an accomplice drove to a location near a water tank in the village, carrying the weapon with them. Around 23:30, the two victims arrived at the location in their own vehicle, driven by the Slovak man.
During the encounter, the 25-year-old admitted that he and another person jointly killed the two men. The victims were struck with successive shots to the head. It was clarified that the convicted man did not hold the weapon during the execution.
After the murder, the perpetrators moved the victims' car to another location and pushed it down a steep dirt road, where it collided with a tree. They then obtained combustible material and set the vehicle ablaze, with the result that the bodies were charred.
Additionally, the prosecution decided to summon the 25-year-old as a witness for the prosecution in the trial of a 21-year-old, who is also accused in the case but denies his involvement.
