The remains of an elderly woman in advanced decomposition have been discovered in a flat in Larnaca. Police announced that they will conduct DNA testing to establish the identity of the deceased.
The body has been transferred to the mortuary and an autopsy is expected to be carried out. Authorities found a Czech passport inside the flat, but owing to the condition of the remains, they cannot confirm whether it belongs to the person named in the document. According to the passport, the person is a woman born in 1944, who is believed to have lived in the property in question.
Police have contacted Interpol and are seeking assistance to locate relatives in the Czech Republic so that genetic material samples can be obtained for formal identification.
Entry to the flat was made with the help of the Fire Service, following complaints about a strong smell emanating from the premises.
