Bangladeshi student murdered in Larnaca: perpetrator admits charges

The confessed perpetrator of the murder of 22-year-old student Shahruar Ahmed Emon from Bangladesh appeared before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca, admitting to all three charges he faces, according to Politis. The next hearing has been set for 6 October.
The accused faces premeditated murder, abduction of a person for the purpose of murder, and extortion with threats for theft purposes — offences allegedly committed in June in Larnaca district.
Forensic examination of the victim revealed three cuts in the scapular region and one cut in the left cervical region.
According to information presented at a previous hearing, the suspect met the 22-year-old on 7 June during a bus journey. The two young men exchanged contact details, and the suspect formed the impression that the student came from a wealthy family.
On 9 June, according to what was heard in court, the suspect purchased a knife. Two days later, on 11 June, he contacted Emon, claiming he knew of a job position paying €50 per day. That same evening the 22-year-old travelled to the Kofinnou area to meet the suspect.
The victim's body was found in an open area in Kofinnou. A knife was also found at the scene, which was taken as evidence by the authorities.
When the suspect was arrested, police found personal items belonging to the victim in his possession, including travel cards and a bank card bearing the student's name. Investigators continue to investigate the sequence of events that led to the young man's death.
