Cypriot prosecuting authorities are holding four people in connection with an investigation into offences linked to terrorism, whilst working closely with foreign services.

Four people remain in detention on the island as authorities investigate offences of a terrorist character. The news was made public by the spokesperson for the prosecuting authorities, Byron Byronis, speaking to the Cyprus News Agency.
According to what he conveyed, the island's security services are in constant vigilance to counter potential terrorist activities. Cooperation with foreign intelligence services contributes to the identification of suspects who may be planning attacks on Cypriot territory. Mr Byronis stressed that the exchange of information with other states takes place within the framework of bilateral agreements.
The spokesperson refrained from commenting on the case of a 37-year-old who was arrested in Crete, stating that it is a matter of national security. He did, however, confirm cooperation with the Greek authorities. In Cyprus, he said, the investigation continues and there are four people in detention.
The contacts of the Republic of Cyprus extend to European Union states and to international organisations, including Europol and Interpol. Mr Byronis assured the public that the authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking measures to prevent any threat.
In response to a question about the role of the future Directorate for Combating Organised Crime, the spokesperson noted that although the service has not yet been officially established, the staff who will man it are already working towards that end.
