A man without valid authorisation to drive a vehicle took possession of someone else's Škoda and attempted to flee a police patrol. The search extended beyond the boundaries of the Central Bohemia region.

In the early hours of 12 June, a patrol from the Poděbrady district police station noticed a man who got behind the wheel. The law enforcement officers knew him – he had repeatedly driven despite lacking the necessary authorisation. When they attempted to check him, he stepped on the accelerator and disappeared.
Units from several locations in the Nymburk district became involved, including Milovice and Městec Králové. The movement of the vehicle towards the east prompted the Central Bohemia police to request assistance from colleagues in the neighbouring region. Those from Kopidlno set up a spike strip on road I/32 to stop the car. The driver drove over it and continued through the village heading towards Cholenice, where the police finally stopped and restrained him.
The twenty-five-year-old repeat offender, known to local law enforcement, had taken the vehicle shortly before in Nymburk. During the inspection, no alcohol was detected in his breath, however a drug test revealed amphetamine and methamphetamine. He refused the subsequent medical examination.
A check of the records showed that the individual had a court-ordered driving ban until 2030 and had never passed the tests required to obtain a driving licence. Investigators are now pressing charges against him for obstruction of an official order, breach of public peace, and theft of another person's property. He faces up to two years behind bars.
